As in previous seasons, this years challenge will be in 3 parts, the first part will cover from Tuesday 5 Mar until the International break. With the first fixture being Tuesday, to give everyone time to submit their entry prior to 1945 on Tues 5 Mar, I am posting the fixtures prior to this weekends matches (including Monday’s game, the Sheffield derby). As I do not know who will be close to the top six after Monday’s game, I have included all teams down to Forest, for parts 2 & 3 I will include teams that have a realistic chance of being in the top 6 come 1500 hrs on Sunday 5 May.
The format is the same as previous years, in that each entry will have to predict what each listed team will have at the end of each Part. If you predict the correct amount of points for a particular team, you will score 10 points but for every point + or -, you will lose a point. As an example if you predict Team A will have 70 points but they actually achieve 68 points you will score 8 points for that team, the same as if Team A actually achieves 72 points. Totalling the points you score for all teams will determine your position in the Exmil Challenge 2019 league and the points you score in Part 1 will carry forward into Part 2 then your total will carry forward into Part 3, at the end of which we will have our final placings and overall winner.

For the first Part as it is not known what each teams starting points will be until after Monday’s game, I ask you post your entry as W/D/L for each teams fixtures and total points gained, for example:

Once I record your entry I will reply with a simple “recorded” and you will know I have entered you in the challenge. Your entry must be posted on Diasboro by 1945 hrs on Tues 5 March. At the end of each part I will post the league positions for everyone.

Here are the votes. I’ve decided on baseless optimism on the grounds that I can at least enjoy my fake results until the real ones come in.
I’ve been metaphorically sitting with my head in my hands since the Preston game. We were terrible against Brentford and that can always be written off but we actually played really well against Preston and were undone by lousy luck that shouldn’t have all happened in that one game. Yes, there were other factors at play but we looked like a good team which always raises the spirits only for them to be dashed in a bloody cruel way. It was the first time this season that i thought that the whole thing could fall apart and we could miss the playoffs.
I didn’t see Villa and have’nt watched the highlights but can only suggest that he international break may have really done us a favour by allowing the whole squad and management to gather their collective breath and come out fighting.

Congratulations to our champion Suffolk’n’Boro and runner up deleriad which leaves Ian Gill, Powmill-Naemore, lenmasterman and Redcar Red to fight it out in the playoffs for the last promotion place. I will post the rules (hopefully) tomorrow or is it later today !
Since, unfortunately, borobrie, Simon and vanteis did not enter after part 1 they automatically took up the relegation places and jarkko, myself and grovehillwallah live to fight another season.
I will point out that after being in 2nd place after Part 1, I (exmil2017) not only tumbledown down to finish second from bottom (bar 3 relegated) but also have (I think) the dubious honour to actually score the first minus score (-1 for Leeds).

EXMIL CHALLENGE 2019 – THE PLAYOFFS
This seasons playoffs will see the following semi finals:
Ian Gill v Redcar Red (repeat of last season)
Powmill-Naemore v lenmasterman
Each player will have to predict the correct score, at full time (including extra time) for each of the following matches:
Sat 11/5 1230 Villa v WBA
Sat 11/5 1715 Derby v Leeds
Tues 14/5 2000 WBA v Villa
Wed 15/5 1945 Leeds v Derby
Penalty shootouts do not count.
Each player will score 5 points for the correct amount of goals per team, per match but will lose a point for each goal +/-.
GOLDEN GOAL
Each player is to predict the time of the first goal in the opening match (Villa v WBA only) to be used as a tie breaker, in the event of a tied total at the end of the four matches. The nearest to the actual time will go through to the final.
Example: predicted score 3 – 2
Actual score 1 – 2
Points scored (3+5) = 8
